Nia Bishop scored 17 of her game-high 20 points in the first half as Salem University built a double-digit lead and never looked back in a 92-72 victory over Davis & Elkins College in NCAA Division II women's basketball Thursday at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
Aaliyah Holmes and
Daniela Quesada also reached double figures in the first half.

Salem (3-10) scored on the game's opening possession and led the entire way. Three-pointers by Holmes and Bishop sparked an 8-0 run and gave the Tigers their first double-digit lead at 18-7 with 3:39 remaining in the first quarter. Davis & Elkins used second-chance points to get as close as seven, but
Alicia Smith's three-pointer with 18 seconds remaining gave the Tigers a 27-16 advantage at the end of one quarter.

Davis & Elkins (2-9) never got closer than nine points in the second quarter and Quesada's three-pointer with 6:37 left before halftime put Salem ahead by double figures for good at 37-25. Bishop made a steal and converted a three-point play with seven seconds left to send the Tigers into the locker room with their biggest lead of the half at 53-36. Bishop finished with seven steals for the game.

The margin got as close as 12 points in the third quarter as Davis & Elkins opened the second half with a three-pointer by Jessica Eadsforth-Yates. Salem answered as
Precious Price eluded defenders in the lane with a cross-over dribble and found
Reeva Jackson underneath as the Tigers went on to build the lead back to 17 by the end of the quarter.

Price hit back-to-back three-pointers to open the fourth quarter and Salem extended its lead to as many as 26 points.

Quesada finished with 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds and matching Bishop with five assists. Holmes was 5-for-7 from three-point range and added 16 points.

The Tigers connected on 15 three-pointers and outscored Davis & Elkins 45-12 from beyond the arc. Salem also scored 35 points off of 23 Senator turnovers.

Jamiyah Johnson recorded a double-double for Davis & Elkins with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Senators totaled 32 offensive boards and outrebounded the Tigers 62-40 overall.

Salem returns to action Saturday as the Tigers travel to Cumberland, Md., to face Frostburg State University. The game is being played at Allegany College of Maryland. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
