Walker Dodero and
Tyler D'Alessandro belted solo home runs, but Salem University's rally came up short as the Tigers fell to King University 11-3 in the final game of a three-game series Sunday at Bristol, Tenn. D'Alessandro and
Austin Whetzel led the Tigers with two hits apiece.
Â
King took an early lead with a six-run second inning before Salem (0-5) cut the margin in half. Dodero drove an 0-2 pitch over the right-field fence with one out in the top of the sixth to put the Tigers on the scoreboard. D'Alessandro led off the seventh with a home run down the right field line and Whetzel followed with a walk. After advancing to third on a wild pitch and a groundout, Whetzel scored on another wild pitch to pull Salem within 6-3.
Â
The home runs were the first of the season for Dodero and D'Alessandro.
Â
King (7-3) used a Connor Andrews two-run homer to break the game open with four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Â
Salem travels to Frankfort, Ky., next weekend for four games against Cedarville University and host school Kentucky State University. The Tigers play single games Saturday against Cedarville and Kentucky State and then plays a doubleheader against Kentucky State.
