Salem (18-7) rallied from 23 points down and extended its winning streak to 11 with a 95-93 victory over Alderson Broaddus University.
Jordan Forbes scored 27 of his career-high 42 points in the second half and
Marko Tutunovic's offensive putback with exactly one minute remaining proved to be the game-winning points.
Â
The winning streak is Salem's longest since the Tigers won their first 13 games of the 2001-02 season.
Â
Wednesday's win not only extended Salem's current winning streak, but also ended a 20-game losing streak to Alderson Broaddus that dates back 15 years. The Tigers' last win over the Battlers was 72-61 in the first round of the East Regional in the 2005 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.
Â
Bluefield State (10-12) fell 91-82 Monday at regionally fourth-ranked Fairmont State.
Â
In Salem's first meeting January 25 at Bluefield State, the Tigers survived a late rally to eek out a 79-78 victory over the Big Blues. Forbes and
Malique Ross combined for 36 points and nine steals.
Â
After Saturday's contest, Salem will play the waiting game as the Tigers wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the Atlantic Regional when the 2020 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship bracket is announced during the Selection Show March 8. The Tigers were not included in the season's first Atlantic Region rankings, which came out Wednesday.
