Salem University rallied from two runs down, but Concord University scored the go-ahead run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Tigers 3-2 in game two of an NCAA Division II softball doubleheader Tuesday at Concord, W.Va. Both games were decided by a single run as Salem dropped the opener 4-3.
Sydney McPherson drove in two of the Tigers' three runs in game one.

The twinbill was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but moved up a day due a forecast of rain.

Salem (3-3) fell behind 2-0 in the nightcap before striking back in the top of the fifth. McPherson led off with a single through the left side and advanced to second on
Kimberly Reckling's sacrifice.
Rosey Romick followed with a single to left and advanced to third while McPherson scored the Tigers' first run on a throwing error. Romick came home on
Casey Moritz's rbi-groundout to tie the game 2-2.

After allowing a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first, Romick (2-1) held Concord scoreless on two hits over the next four innings. But the Mountain Lions capitalized on a throwing error to put a runner on third with one out and the eventual winning run came home on a sacrifice fly.

In game one, Salem broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second inning
Katrya Traylor led off with a single to left and advanced to second on
Morgan Atkinson's sacrifice.
Christine Bombardiere singled up the middle and Traylor scored when McPherson reached on a fielder's choice.

The Tigers loaded the bases on Romick's infield single and Bombardiere came home on a Moritz single up the middle to give Salem a 2-0 lead.

Salem added a run in the top of the second as Arianna Sanchez led off with a single and Traylor drew a walk. After another sacrifice by Atkinson advanced the runners, Sanchez scored on McPherson's two-out single to right to extend the Tigers' lead to 3-0.

Bombardiere (1-2) went the distance in the circle and overcame a leadoff double in the bottom of the first to retire nine of the next 11 batters. Concord (5-2-1) broke up Bombardiere's shutout bid when Skylar Jenkins led off the fourth with a triple and scored on a one-out sacrifice fly. The Mountain Lions tied the game in the fifth on Jenna Witt's two-run single and Jenkins followed with an rbi-single to put Concord ahead to stay.

Salem travels to West Liberty University Sunday afternoon, then has its opener Monday afternoon as the Tigers play host to Washington Adventist University at Hope Field.
