Late Run Lifts WBB over UPJ

Salem, WV – Salem University women's basketball snap a seven-game losing streak with a victory over University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 71-66 at home on Saturday.

Daniela Quesada led the scoring for the Tigers with 12 points followed by Aleena Mongerie and Kalyne Daniels with 11. Mongerie also led the rebounding for the Tigers with six on the night.

The Tigers built their lead to seven with two minutes remaining in the first quarter after Quesada found Ixsamar Gonzalez under the basket for two. The Mountain Cats answered back to pull within three going into the second. The Tigers opened the second with two back-to-back fastbreak layups to extend their lead 21-14. The Mountain Cats evened the score at 23 before the Tigers scored the last four points of the quarter to go into the half ahead 27-23.

The Mountain Cats tied it up four times throughout the third quarter before the Tigers would take the two-point lead into the final quarter. The Mountain Cats tied it up for the final time with one minute remaining. The Tigers closed out the game with a 7-2 run to come away with the 71-66 victory over UPJ.

Up Next

The Tigers will be back at home on the 15th against Frostburg State University starting at 5:30 p.m.
