Salem, WV – Salem University men's basketball defeated Central State University on Thursday 110-73.
Fonz Hale led all scorers with 39 points and six rebounds on the night followed by Tobias Howard Jr. with 21 points and six rebounds. Darius Bell and Felix Gue led the rebounding for the Tigers with eight apiece.
The Tigers started the night with a 10-0 run to take the early lead. The Tigers built their largest lead of the first half at 32 with five minutes remaining after Aundre Bills found Bell in the paint for two. CSU scored 13 consecutive points to cut the Tigers lead to 19 at the two-minute mark. The Tigers outscored CSU 10-6 in the last two minutes to go into the half ahead 62-39.
Hale started the second half with a three-point play followed by a fastbreak layup from Howard to extend the Tiger lead 67-39. Two good free throws from Gue put the Tigers at the 100-point mark with 6:42 left in play. Tadeas Kapek secured two for the Tigers to give them the largest lead of the night at 47. CSU outscored the Tigers 13-3 in the final four minutes but could not overcome the double-digit deficit.
