Softball Splits With WU in Season Opening Series

Morgantown, WV- Salem University softball started their 2021 season hosting Wheeling University at Mylan Park on Thursday. The Tigers fell in the first game 14-3 but came away with the win in game two 8-7 with a walk-off 2-run home run by Mackenzie Ringer.

Game One:
  • The Tigers shaky start led to the Cardinals having a big first inning making it 5-0. The Tigers rallied for three in the third. The final run for the Tigers came from Emily Gonzalez through a single to right field driving in a run.
  • Adriana Sanchez had a big game at the plate for the Tigers with two hits in three at bats.
Game Two:
  • The Tigers got on the board early in game two after a double from Ashlee Hedrick brought one in followed by a sacrifice fly from Christine Bombardiere to bring in another.
  • The hot bat of Hedrick blasted another double brining in the go ahead 3-2 run in the fifth. The Tigers plated another after an error from the Cardinals to go ahead 4-2.
  • After a three up three down inning from the Tigers followed by plating two more in the sixth, the Cardinals answered in the seventh with two home runs that put them ahead 7-6.
  • Bombardiere started the seventh with a single through the left side followed by a walk off home run from Mackenzie Ringer to secure the 8-7 victory for the Tigers.
The Tigers will take on Glenville State College on Sunday in a double header contest starting at 1 p.m.
