Salem University baseball split the day against Virginia State University on Sunday, losing the first game 12-5 and bouncing back in the second 9-1. The Tigers collected 12 hits with two being a homerun by Jerrod Johnmeyer and Austin Earl.
Game One:
The Tigers got on the board early in game one, scoring three. Dalton Robison singled to left field to drive in two. The Trojans answered in the bottom of the inning putting up three to tie the game. Quinten Collins leadoff the second with a double to left field and was brought in by a single from Earl to go ahead 4-3. Virginia State had a big inning in the third to take the lead 8-4. The Tigers added another run in the fifth from a leadoff homerun from Johnmeyer. Virginia State added four more to their lead in the bottom of the inning to come away with the 12-5 victory.
Game Two:
The Tigers got an early lead over the Trojans 2-0 after a passed ball and a single by Kasey Buchanan. Buchanan brought another run across the plate in the third to increase the Tiger's lead 3-1. The Tigers kept the momentum going into the seventh starting with a homerun from Earl. After a hit by pitch and five walks, the Tigers defeated the Trojans 9-1. Robison started on the mound for the Tigers throwing six innings, only giving up four hits and striking out two.
The Tigers will return to action April 20th at Alderson Broaddus University starting at 3 p.m.
