Salem University baseball fell to Alderson Broaddus University on Tuesday in the 10th inning 14-13. Austin Earl, Dalton Robison and Kobie Carpenter combined for nine of the Tigers 17 hits. Jerrod Johnmeyer and Tyler Shinn contributed four RBIs each on the day.
The Tigers started strong scoring five in the first. Cameron Abele, Johnmeyer, Kasey Buchanan, and Shinn singled in the inning. The Tigers were able to add another in the second of off a miscue by the Battlers. Shinn brought two more across the plate in the third off of a left field homer. The Battlers took their first lead of the game in the fourth to go ahead by one. Johnmeyer helped take the lead back for the Tigers in the fifth with a single to left field to make the score 11-9. Both defenses held strong until the Battlers broke the standstill to go ahead 13-11 in the sixth. Two singles by Robison and Carpenter and a walk by Trey Hissam tied it up 13-13 to send it into extra innings. Despite having two singles in the tenth, the Tigers were unable to bring one home. The Battlers were able add one to the board off of a double to left field to come away with the 14-13 victory.
The Tigers will return to action at home on Friday, April 23rd at 6 p.m.
