Salem University baseball hosted Shepherd University Friday in a double header contest. The Tigers dropped game one 7-1 and walked off game two 8-7. The Tigers collected 16 hits with four getting multiple hits.
Game One:
Shepherd got on the board early scoring four in the first inning. The Tigers answered back in the bottom of the inning after a fielder's choice from Buchanan brought one in. The Tigers were not able to bring anymore across the plate falling 7-1.
Game Two:
In game two, both teams got on the board early with Shepherd scoring two and the Tigers scoring one off a double from Josh Medina down the left field line. The Tigers led off the second with a double from Austin Whetzel who would later score to tie the game. Salem took their first lead of the game after a homerun from Austin Earl brought in two to go ahead 4-2. A lead off runner due to a miscue from Shepherd came around to score in the fourth to add to the Tiger lead 5-2. Shepherd added four in the fifth to take back to lead 6-5. The Tigers managed to bring in two in the sixth to go ahead 7-6. The rams tied it up again in the seventh off of a homer to left field. The Tigers looked to Jason Gomez to take the mound with bases loaded and two outs. He got the Tigers out of the jam by striking out the final batter. Going into the ninth tied up, Noah Suarez lead off the inning by getting to second due to a Rams error to put him in scoring position. After having a homer earlier in the game, the Rams intentionally walked Earl. Medina showed up big for the Tigers with a walk off single to right field to bring Suarez in for the winning run.
The Tigers will complete the series with Shepherd University Tomorrow for Senior day with game time being at 12 p.m. and senior recognition at 11:30 a.m.
