Salem, WV - Salem University women's basketball took down Bluefield State College 75-73 on Saturday at home.
Vantanae Garrett led the Tigers with 18 points followed by Daniela Quesada with 15 and Kalyne Daniels with 12 points and eight rebounds. The Tigers shot 42 percent from the field and 88 percent from the line.
After multiple lead changes to open the game, the Tigers were down by five with one minute lift in the first quarter. A trip to the line from Quesada and a three-point play from Daniels evened the score going into the second. The Big Blue built up a lead of seven with three minutes left in the second. The Tigers went on the score 12 consecutive points to go into the half ahead, 40-38.
The Big Blue outscored the Tigers 19-15 in the third to go ahead by two into the final quarter. The Tigers battled back to tie up the score three times throughout the fourth. A midrange jump shot from Quesada put the Tigers ahead by two with five minutes left. The Big Blue pulled within one twice in the final minutes but back-to-back buckets from Stanford and Quesada pushed the Tigers ahead to secure the 75-73 win.
