GREENEVILLE, Tennessee - Looking to get back into the win column, the Salem women's soccer program took a trip down south this weekend to take on the Tusculum Pioneers. Unfortunately, it was a tough day for the Tigers, and they fell by a score of 5-0.
In the first half, Salem had a tough time with the Pioneer offensive attack right off the back as they added goals in the 6th and 23rd minutes of the match. After the quick deficit, the Salem defense held fast the rest of the half to carry the 2-0 score into the halftime break.Â
After the break, Salem had a tough task in front of them while they tried to stop an effective Pioneer offensive side. While the effort was there from the Tigers, the Pioneers made an effective use of the counterattack to push their lead to 5-0 in the second half. Salem simply could not find the offensive chances to get back into the game, and the 5-0 lead would hold until the final whistle.Â
Despite a disappointing day on the scoreboard, there were some bright areas for the Tigers. Aniiyah Peeples played well in creating scoring chances for Salem. Goalkeepers Chloe Owens and Alexandra Issard combined for 6 saves in net for the Tigers.
Salem's women's soccer team will be looking to get back on track when they face the Saints of D'Youville College for a home contest on October 5th at 2 pm. That contest is currently scheduled to be played at Salem's Catalano Stadium.
