SALEM, West Virginia - After nearly a 2 month hiatus to start off the season, the Salem women's soccer program finally had a chance for their first true home game of the season as the Saints of D'Youville College made the trip down to Salem from upstate New York for a mid-week afternoon matchup. It was a hard fought game from whistle to whistle, and it would result in a 1-1 draw. 

Salem got off to a remarkably strong start as Oceane Deslauriers found the back of the net off of an assist from Marlena Mathes in just the third minute of the game. From there, the game settled into a defensive deadlock that held the score at 1-0 in favor of the Tigers into the halftime break. 

After the intermission, the Saints kicked their offensive attack into high gear as they desperately tried to even the score. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they found that chance in the 73rd minute and brought the score level at 1-1. From there, neither team could find many solid offensive opportunities, and the match would result in a draw. 

On the stats sheet for the Tigers, the clear leader was Oceane Deslauriers who found 3 shots on goal on top of the lone goal for the Tigers. In goal, the goalie by committee approach that head coach Florin Marton has employed for much of the season worked well the team of Chloe Owens and Alexandra Issard logged a total of 5 saves. 

Salem women's soccer will have a bit of a break as they are not set for another contest until October 11th. They will face another East Coast Conference foe in Roberts Wesleyan College at 3 pm. That contest is presently scheduled for Catalano Stadium.
