SALEM, West Virginia - Even though the fall sports seasons are taking up the majority of the spotlight for Salem Athletics right now, Salem University Baseball has some exciting news about their upcoming season. The New South Conference has admitted Salem University as a member for the sport of baseball only, and Salem will compete in the New South during the 2023 spring season.
In regards to this news, Salem Athletics Director Alex Joseph commented "We wish to express our thanks to the New South and its member institutions for the opportunity to have our baseball program join this organization. We are excited to partner with them, and look forward to the expanded opportunities we now have to compete with excellent competition in postseason play."
Salem Baseball coach J.T. Heenan had the following to say as well. ""The Salem University baseball program is excited to join the New South Atlantic Conference. We are grateful to compete amongst highly competitive institutions and aid in the growth of this new coalition of schools. We are excited to better our player experience with the opportunity of postseason competition. The Salem baseball program is ready to get to work and help better the NSAC."
The NSAC is based out of Raleigh, North Carolina and currently is made up of 9 schools. Fellow NCAA Division II program Virginia State won the conference's inaugural championship in 2022, and fellow USCAA programs Mid-Atlantic Christain and the Apprentice School are among the conference's stronger programs for baseball.
