Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaden Shoaf

Tigers Drop Final Home Match of the Season

SALEM, West Virginia - Despite the somewhat overcast conditions at Catalano Stadium today, the Salem women's soccer team had bright hopes for the final soccer home contest of the season against Saint Thomas Aquinas. Salem stuck with the Spartans the whole way, but ultimately had their hopes dashed by a score of 2-0.

In the first half, the game went into a defensive deadlock early on as neither team was able to find any good scoring chances due to the strong defensive play on both sides. However, midway through the half, disaster struck for the Tigers as a shot from the Spartans was deflected, but trickled into the net for a Saint Thomas Aquinas goal. The 1-0 scoreline then held into the break as the game settled back into a defensive gridlock yet again.

In the second half, the Salem offensive came out swinging as they pushed to draw even with the Spartans. However, it would be the Spartans who found the back of the net again to bring the score up to 2-0. That scoreline would hold until the final whistle.

However, on the stats sheet, there were some bright spots for the Tigers. Vlora Dibrani and Aniiyah Peeples created some solid scoring chances for Salem. Following their usual platoon system in goal, Chloe Owens and Alexandra Issard logged 4 goals as a unit.

Salem will hit the road for the final three contests of the season, and all three will be doubleheaders with the men's teams. The first of these games will be against Emory & Henry College on Sunday, October 30th at 1:30 pm.
