Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaden Shoaf

Salem Stung in Emory 2-1

EMORY, Virginia - As the fall season winds to a close in the coming weeks, the Salem women's soccer program hit the road for the first of three straight away games to conclude their season against the Emory & Henry Wasps. While Salem took early control of the contest, a late Wasps rally stung the Tigers, and they fell by a score of 2-1.

In the first half, the game quickly fell into a defensive gridlock as many games have for Salem this season. Neither team could find many scoring chances, and a 0-0 deadlock would maintain itself into the halftime break.

In the second half, Salem struck first as Oceane Deslauriers found the back of the net early in the half for an unassisted goal. Even though Salem had control of the contest at this point, they still had a stingy Emory & Henry squad to deal with for the majority of the second half to go. The Wasps would equalize the game again after the Deslauriers goal, and in the final minutes of the game, Salem would concede one final goal to give Emory & Henry control of the match. That 2-1 scoreline would hold in the final moments of the game despite a furious comeback attempt from the Tigers.

On the stats sheets, it was clear the Tigers found some offensive chances today. Led by the Oceane Deslauriers' goal, Marlena Mathes and Ana Luiza Ferrante also created some solid scoring chances for the Tigers. In goal, Alexandra Issard yielded 6 saves for Salem.

While today's trip to Virginia did not go the Salem way, the Tigers will get a chance to get back on track on Wednesday, November 2nd against Shaw in Raleigh, North Carolina at Noon.
