SALEM, West Virginia - After falling in a heartbreaker in Saturday's contest, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team was looking to bounce back in tonight's contest against the Washington Adventist Shock. Unfortunately, Salem found themselves in a defensive slugfest all night with the Shock, and they fell by a score of 53-44.Â
In the first half, the story of the game was the offensive woes on both teams. Neither team could find many solid scoring chances initially, and the first few minutes of the game went scoreless. With some key points scored from the free throw line, Salem found themselves in a tight 22-15 ball game going into the half.Â
In the second half, the defensive gridlock continued. Salem found very little in the way of scoring as they posted another nearly identical half offensively. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Washington Adventist began to find those scoring chances that Salem could not down the final stretch of the second half, and they slowly ate away at the Tiger lead. Ultimately, it would be the Shock that pulled away with the tight 53-44 win.
On the stats sheet for the Tigers, it was a familiar name leading the way in scoring as Stan Smith led Salem again with 14. Riley Heatherington also had a decent day with 8 points and 8 rebounds.Â
While this game did not go the Tigers way, Salem will have the Thanksgiving break to make some key adjustments. They are slated to face off with the Edinboro Fighting Scots on Saturday, November 26th at 4 PM. That contest will be played in Edinboro, Pennsylvania.Â
