EDINBORO, Pennsylvania - After the Thanksgiving hiatus, the Salem men's basketball team headed up to Edinboro, Pennsylvania to match up with the Edinboro Fighting Scots. Salem has had a tough couple of weeks with a 4 game losing skid, but they got back on track tonight with a hard fought 72-67 win.Â
The tone of this game was established early on as both teams traded baskets early. Neither team could wrestle control of the game fully away from the other, and this back and forth template continued throughout the contest. The story of the first half for the Tigers was some hot outside shooting from Kapone Barley. Barley kept the Tigers neck and neck with the Scots the whole way in the first half, and Salem held a slim 34-32 lead after one.Â
In the second, the game went right back to the back and forth battle the audience in Edinboro saw all night. Instead of the hot shooting of Barley keeping the Tigers in the game this time, it was the play of veteran leader Rodney Smith. Smith ran the Salem offense well and distributed the ball well to his Tigers teammates on top of contributing some key points down the stretch from the line. Salem kept a tight lead through the final minutes of the game, and earned a hard fought 72-67 win.Â
On the stats sheet, Salem was led by Rodney Smith who contributed a double double with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Also in double figures for the Tigers was Kapone Barley whose strong outside shooting brought in 16 points.Â
Salem should be energized by this win as they head out to Ohio to take on old Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Tiffin on Monday, November 28th at 7 PM.
