Salem, WV – Salem University men's basketball defeated Washington Adventist University 80-71 on Saturday.
Fonz Hale led the scoring for the Tigers with 26 points and seven rebounds followed by Tobias Howard Jr. with 18 and Rodney Smith with 13 points and seven rebounds. The Tigers shot 44 percent from the field and 83 percent from the line.
The Shock opened the game with a 9-0 run to take the early lead. The Tigers scored their first bucket of the night after Tadeas Kapek found Hale for two. A three from Stan Smith gave the Tigers their first lead of the night, 16-13 midway through the half. The Shock took back the lead with two minutes left after a three-point play. The Tigers answered with a three-point play of their own at the buzzer to go into the half with the 35-33 advantage.
The Tigers had their largest lead of the night at 13 five minutes into the second after a fastbreak layup from Hale. The Shock battled back to pull within three of the Tigers with seven minutes left in the half, but could not get any closer.
