Baseball Goes 1 - 2

Nutter Fort, WV – Salem University baseball went 1-2 on Thursday and Friday against Concord University and Mercyhurst University.

In game one, the Tigers fell to Concord 9-4. The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead after bringing in three in the first and one in the second. Going into the seventh down by eight, Brett Graham led off with a double to center field. Later in the inning, Trey Hissam singled through the left side to bring in Graham for the first run for the Tigers. The Tigers brought three runs across the plate in the eighth to cut the lead 8-4. Brett Ehr drew the leadoff walk followed by Blake Tablazon with a single and an extra base after an error from the Moutain Lions to put runners at second and third. Kobie Carpenter brought in Her and advanced Tablazon to second. Scott Kondroik followed with a double to center field to bring in Tablazon. Later in the inning, Nathan Kuhn singled to right field to bring in the fourth run for the Tigers. After the Mountain Lions added another in the ninth, pinch hitter Easy Goita led off the Tigers with a double to single field, but the Tigers could not bring any across the plate.

In game two, the Tigers fell to Mercyhurst 12-5. The Tigers got on the board first, scoring two in the first. Tablazon was hit by pitch followed by Kuhn, who drew the walk. Later in the inning, Alex Harper doubled down the left field line to bring in two. The Lakers bounced back quickly, bringing in two in the second and another in the third. The Lakers added three in the fourth to extend their lead 6-2, but the Tigers pulled within one in the bottom of the inning. Back-to-back walks from Tyler Shinn and Kevin Thomson put runners for the Tigers at first and second. Capenter singled to right field to load the bases. Tablazon advanced the runners, bringing in one. Kuhn drew the walk to load the bases again for the Tigers. Graham singled to right field to bring in two to cut the Lakers lead 6-5. Going into the ninth down 8-5, the Lakers added four to take the 12-5 victory over the Tigers.

The Tigers capitalized on 11 hits in game three to take the 11-2 victory over Concord. After two scoreless innings, the Tigers brought one across the plate. Jared Palmyra led off the inning with a double down the left field line followed by Carpenter, who was hit by the pitch. Tablazon laid down the SAC bunt to advance the runners. Kuhn put the ball into play, bringing Palmyra home. The Tigers would add two to their lead in the sixth. Graham singled to center field, who would later be brought home off of a double to center field by Hissam. Conor Bardue followed with a single up the middle to score Hissam. The Mountain Lions scored one in the seventh, but the Tigers exploded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning. Palmrya led off the inning getting hit by pitch followed by Carpenter who reached on an error. Back-to-back walks from Tablazon and Kuhn brought in the first run of the inning. Graham singled to left field to bring in two to extend the lead 6-1. Hissam drew the walk to load the bases, followed by a single through the left side from Bardue to bring in two. Harper doubled to left field to bring in Hissam. Chase Tucker singled up the middle to bring in the last two runs for the Tigers to give them the 11-1 lead. The Mountain Lions scored one in the ninth but could not overcome the ten runs deficit that the Tigers had set. Jaryd Lund earned the win for the Tigers throwing seven innings, giving up six hits, one run, and striking out eight.

The Tigers will be back in action at home Tuesday, March 13th in a double header against a Bluefield State College starting at 12 p.m.
