Tigers Walk Off Game One, Drop Game Two Against UPJ

Nutter Fort, WV – Salem University baseball took game one against University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 6-5 and dropped the second 9-5 on Sunday.

After three scoreless innings in game one, UPJ brought three across the plate. The Tigers quickly answered to take the 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Scott Kondroik drew the walk followed by Brett Graham with a single. Alex Harper singled to left field to load the bases. Nathan Kuhn singled to center field, advanced to second on an error and third on the throw to bring in three runs to even the score. Brett Ehr singled up the middle to bring in the go ahead run for the Tigers. UPJ took back the lead in the sixth after scoring two. Graham led off the sixth with a double down the left field line followed by a single from Harper to put runners at first and third. Kuhn sacrificed to center field to bring in Graham to tie it up 5-5. Going into extra innings, Harper and Kuhn led off the inning getting hit by the pitch. Later in the inning, Tucker loaded the bases after getting hit by pitch. Trey Hissam showed up big for the Tigers, hitting a single to right center to secure the walk-off 6-5 win for the Tigers.

The Tigers struck first in game two to take the 1-0 lead in the first. Easy Goita singled through the left side, later being brought in by Graham who singled to left field. After UPJ tied it up in the top of the second the Tigers answered in the bottom to take back the lead. Kuhn lead off the inning with a single to right center followed by a double down the left field line from Ehr to go ahead 2-1. UPJ scored three in the fourth to take the 4-3 lead over the Tigers. Goita homered in the fifth to even the score once again for the Tigers in the fifth. Goita drove another run in for the Tigers with a double in the sixth to take the 5-4 lead. UPJ exploded with five runs in the seventh to take the 9-5 victory over the Tigers.

The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, March 22nd at California University of Pennsylvania starting at 2 p.m.
