Tigers Go 3-1 Against Wright State Lake

Salem, WV – Salem University baseball took three of the four games over the weekend against Wright State Lake University.

The Tigers took down WSLU in five innings 14-1 in game one. After WSLU scored one in the first, the Tigers answered with six in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth. Conor Bardue collected three hits in three at bats followed by Brett Ehr with two hits in two at bats. Jared Palmyra, Scott Kondroik and Ehr each had three RBIs in game one. Alden Halfinger got the win on the mound for the Tigers throwing all five innings, giving up seven hits, one walk and striking out four.

Jhayden Raineri earned the 8-5 win on the mound for the Tigers with Frankie Clearly earning the save in game two. After both teams scoring the in the first, the Tigers took the lead after scoring two in the second. A double from Kobie Carpenter brought in the go ahead run for the Tigers followed by an RBI from Ehr. After WSLU answered in the third to tie it up 3-3, the Tigers took back the lead scoring two in the fourth and a homer from Bardue in the fifth. WSLU pulled within one in the sixth before a two-run homer from Tyler Shinn in the bottom of the inning was enough to take game two 8-5.

The Tigers exploded with seven runs in the first to take the 7-2 lead over WSLU. Shinn drew the walk to lead off the inning followed by a double from Palmya. Kondroik singled to right field to bring in the first run for the Tigers followed by a single through the left side from Alex Harper to bring in the second. Nathan Kuhn later singled through the left side to bring in two to take the two-run advantage. A fielders choice brought in another before Shinn reached on an error bringing two across the plate. The Tigers added three in the second and four more in the third to come away with the 14-3 lead.

The Tigers fell in the final game against WSLU 7-6. WLSU scored three in the first and second inning. The Tigers answered in the second with one after a homerun from Hissam and another in the third from an RBI from Shinn. Going into the sixth down by five, the Tigers brought four across the plate. With two runners on first and second, Hissam doubled to right field to bring in one for the Tigers. Later, a single and scoring on an error by Carpenter brought in three for the Tigers to pull within one but wasn't enough to overcome WSLU.
