PHILIPI, West Virginia - In a thrilling finale to opening of the fall campaign of Salem Athletics, the most exciting contest of the evening came from Salem Men's Soccer as they traveled over to Philpi to take on the Alderson Broaddus Battlers for a Thursday evening contest that ended in a 1-1 draw. 

In the first half, both teams found their scoring opportunities few and far between as neither team found the back of the net until late in the first half when the Battlers struck first. They would hold that lead into the break. 

After the break, the pressure was on for the Tigers as they looked to even the score. The frantic comeback bid was on. They found their opportunity in the 86th minute when a Battler foul set up Aidan Mahoney for a shot from the penalty spot. He made the most of that opportunity, and brought the game level. 

After a climatic final push to try to break the deadlock, neither team was able to push ahead and the game closed at a 1-1 draw. 

After this dramatic conclusion to the season opener, the Tigers will have another opportunity to get into the win column as they head up to North Canton, Ohio to take on the Walsh Cavaliers for a Saturday afternoon contest at 1 pm on August 27th.
