NORTH CANTON, Ohio - After a heroic effort towards the end of the game on Thursday to come away with a draw, the Salem men's soccer program had a new chance to get into the win column for the first time this season as they headed about 4 hours north to take on the Walsh University Cavaliers. Unfortunately, the Tigers had trouble with the Cavaliers offensive attack, and fell by a score of 5-1.Â
The game started off even keeled as neither team had many good scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes or so. Walsh drew first blood with goals in the 30th and 33rd minutes. Salem was able to bounce back however with a goal of their own from Diego Losada shortly thereafter. The 2-1 scoreline would hold into the halftime break.Â
After the intermission, this is when the Cavaliers took control of the game. Walsh put up 3 more goals in rapid succession, and a late red card against Salem would kill any chances of a dramatic comeback. The Cavaliers came away with the 5-1 victory.Â
Statistically, Salem had a few bright areas, Aidan Mahoney was successful in creating scoring opportunities for the Tigers, and goalkeepers Zac Coppin and Ryan Schneider logged 4 saves as a unit. Diego Losada also provided the lone goal for the Tigers.Â
Despite the frustrating outcome today, Salem will be right back at it as they continue that pursuit of their first win of the season when they take on Davis & Elkins College on August 31st for their home opener at 5 pm.
