FAIRMONT, West Virginia - Looking to right the disappointments of the first two contests in Fairmont, the Salem University Volleyball squad had 2 more opportunities to do just that. They faced off with the Ursuline Arrows first, and then took on the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats. Despite improved play in both contests, the Tigers would fall both times. The games played out as follows:
Ursuline 3, Salem 0
In the first contest of the day, Salem found some offensive output that they had been sorely lacking in their previous two contests. They would even jump ahead in the early stages of the first set, but they could not quite maintain pace with the Arrow's offensively. Ursuline took three straight sets in a very similar manner, and Salem found themselves on the losing end. However, Olivia Dupras would have a solid day defensively with 8 digs in this contest.
Pitt-Johnstown 3, Salem 0
In the Tiger's final matchup in Fairmont, they continued to make steady improvements offensively and would even take some early leads across all three sets. However, stronger offensive play from the Mountain Cats and some defensive missteps from the Tigers would give Pitt Johnstown this contest in three straight sets as well. Statistically there were some bright spots. Gabriela Chaparro Coss had another impressive performance with 10 assists, and Brianna Sotelo logged 14 digs for the Tigers.Â
Despite the tough weekend in Fairmont, the Tigers are going to be right back at it as they are slated for their first home contest of the season on Monday, August 29th when the Glenville State Pioneers are coming to town for a 6 pm contest. That contest will be hosted at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
