Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaden Shoaf

Tigers Offensive Woes Continue as they Fall to Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pennsylvania - On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in eastern Pennsylvania, the Salem Tigers women's soccer program had an opportunity to get into the win column for the first time this season as they took on the Mansfield Mountaineers for their first road contest of the year. Unfortunately, the Tigers struggled to create scoring opportunities, and fell by a score of 5-0.

In the first half, the Tigers played well and kept the Mansfield attack at bay for the majority of the half despite conceding a quick goal in the opening minutes. The defensive strength of the Tigers carried the game to a 1-0 score at the break.

However, the halftime intermission was not kind to the Tigers. In the first 20 minutes of the second half, the Mountaineers found the back of the net 4 separate times to bring the score up to 5-0. The Tigers responded with a furious offensive push to make it back on the scoreboard towards the end of the match, but it was to no avail. Mansfield would pull away with the firm 5-0 victory.

Statistically, there were some areas of hope for the Tigers. Alexandra Issard logged an impressive 10 saves in goal for Salem. Additionally, Litzi Delarosa and Ana Caroline Lopes were both effective in creating scoring opportunities for the Tigers.

For the Tigers, they will be able to continue that search for their first win of the season at home when the Davis & Elkins Senators come to town for a men's and women's soccer doubleheader on August 31st.
