MEDIA, Pennsylvania - After an excellent performance over the Bryant & Stratton-Albany Bobcats yesterday, the Salem men's soccer program had another chance to get back out on the field against Penn State-Brandywine in the tournament final hosted by PSU-Brandywine. While the Tigers played well, they would play to a 3-3 draw during regular time, but they fell in the penalty kick shootout that decided the champion of the tournament.
The Tigers played well in the first half. Like much of the season, the scoring was started Luka Majstorovic who found the back of the net in the 31st minute. Shortly thereafter, Oluwaseun Babarinde scored with a header off a corner kick from Diego Losada. Salem would hold that 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.
After the intermission, Brandywine mounted their comeback, and brought it up to 2-1. However, Mauricio Aguilar Renovales scored for Salem to bring it up to 3-1. Unfortunately, Brandywine battled right back and found the tying goals shortly before the final whistle. From there, the Tigers found the back of the net just once in the shootout period, and failed to bring home the tournament championship by a score of 4-1 on penalty kicks.
Fortunately, the Tigers have another opportunity to get back into the win column on Saturday, September 17th as they will head up to the Keystone State again to face off with Seton Hill for a 1:30 pm contest.
