Salem, West Virginia - After the trip up to Pennsylvania was unfruitful, the Salem women's volleyball program had a chance to get back into the winning column as they played host to the West Liberty Hilltoppers on a Friday night bash. Salem struggled in the early sets, and, despite a hard fought final set, fell to West Liberty 3-0.Â
The first two sets of the evening played out in a very similar manner. Salem struggled to keep pace with the Hilltoppers offensively, and fell behind early in both sets. After brief Tiger rallies in an attempt to claw back into the contest, the Hilltoppers would push their lead and take both sets 25-8.Â
In the third set, faced with their final chance to get back into the contest, head coach Ashley Zeigle's squad fought back hard and took an early lead in the third set. However, West Liberty was up to the task and would pry control away from the Tigers with a late rally to win the set 25-19, and the contest 3-0.Â
Despite the disappointing result on the scoreboard, there were some bright sports for the Tigers. Alycia Rivera played well with 2 blocks and 2 kills, and Gabriela Chaparro Coss logged 4 digs and 4 assists.Â
Although tonight's contest did not end in the Tiger's favor, they are right back at it at home tomorrow as they will play host to Winston Salem State for a 1 pm contest in T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
