SALEM, West Virginia - After a tough night on Friday against West Liberty, the Salem volleyball team had another good chance to get back on track as the Rams of Winston Salem State came to town. The Tigers played one of their best matches of the season, but fell in dramatic fashion 3-1.Â
In the first set, Salem took initial control of the contest as they won the first set with some strong play across the board. Winston Salem State would then respond by taking the next two sets, but not without a fight from the Tigers as they kept the game close the whole way. In the fourth set, Salem jumped out to a big early lead, however Winston Salem State would rally from 8 points down to level to score at 23-23. After a Tigers point made it 24-23, three straight points from the Rams would give Winston Salem State the match in heartbreaking fashion for the Tiger faithful.Â
On the stats sheet, there were still some strong areas for the Tigers despite the disappointment on the scoreboard. For example, Tahnee Gerard played well with 15 digs and 5 kills. Not to be outdone by her teammate, Makhia Hinton logged 14 digs and 8 kills.Â
Even though the Tigers did not come out with the win today, they will still be ready to go for their next contest in just a few days against a familiar opponent. They are scheduled to take on the Alderson Broaddus Battlers on September 22nd at 7 pm. After falling to the Battlers in the second home game of the season, the Tigers will hit the road for this contest as it will be played in Philippi, West Virginia.Â
