Tigers use Late Goal to Earn Draw At Bluefield State

BLUEFIELD, West Virginia - On a nice Sunday afternoon contest, the Salem Tigers women's soccer team were slated for a rematch today against Bluefield State. Salem fell to Bluefield State at home to open up the season, and they sought out some revenge for that loss in this contest on the road. Although not quite a win, Salem was able to convert a late goal to earn a 1-1 draw down in Bluefield.

In the first half, Bluefield State jumped out to an early lead with a goal just 15 minutes into the contest. From there, the contest became a defensive battle as neither team would find many scoring chances. Bluefield State would hold that 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

After the break, it was more of the same as neither team could really take control of the game. Salem's comeback chance took shape in the 79th minute when Aniiyah Peeples would find the back of the net to draw even with Bluefield State. Despite a few solid scoring chances after that, the game would end in the 1-1 draw.

On the stats sheet, the star of the contest was Aniiyah Peeples with the lone goal for the Tigers. Additionally, Chloe Owens and Alexandra Issard kept the Tigers in the contest with 8 saves between them in the goalkeeper spot.

After the late draw here in Bluefield, the Salem women's soccer team will be back in action at home at 4 PM on Wednesday, September 21st as the King University Tornadoes make their way to Catalano Stadium for a late afternoon tilt.
