Tigers Earn Hard Fought Win in Charleston Against King

CHARLESTON, West Virginia - Another week goes by and the central West Virginia rainfall keeps the field at Catalano Stadium in an unplayable condition. Therefore, the Salem women's soccer team had to head down to Charleston for a late afternoon contest against King University at Schoenbaum Stadium. Despite the long drive, the Tigers played well and earned the 1-0 win over King.

In the first half, both teams settled into a defensive battle that saw neither team find very many scoring opportunities. The deadlock would solidify as the 0-0 score would hold into the halftime break.

The second half was initially more of the same as the defensive prowess of both teams was on full display. The deadlock was finally broken when a long bouncing shot from Oceane Deslauriers found its way over the outstretched hands of the Tornado goalkeeper to put the game squarely in the Tigers favor. From there, the Tigers rode out the rest of the game based on their strong defensive play to an exciting 1-0 win.

On the stats sheet, Oceane Deslauriers led the way for the Tigers with the lone goal of the match on her three shots on goal. Alexandra Issard and Chloe Owens had another strong day as a unit in goal with 8 saves.

Salem women's soccer will not have much time to celebrate this win as they are slated for another home contest this weekend. The Maine-Fort Kent Bengals are coming to Salem for a USCAA matchup at Catalano Stadium at 5 PM on Sunday, September 25th.
