ATHENS, West Virginia - After a frustrating start to their campaign at the Concord Classic, the Salem University volleyball program had a great chance to start anew as they faced back to back PSAC foes today. They started off with a late morning matchup with Indiana (PA) and then took on California (PA) later on in the day. Unfortunately, neither contest would go the Tiger's way as they dropped both contests 3-0.
Indiana (PA) 3, Salem 0
In the morning contest, Salem found themselves in a hole early as they could not find many scoring opportunities. Therefore, the Crimson Hawks jumped out to early leads, and controlled each set quickly. The game would play out just as quickly, and Indiana (PA) would pull away with a decisive 3-0 victory. It was not all bad for the Tigers however as Makhia Hinton would play well with 5 digs and 3 kills.
California (PA) 3, Salem 0
In the evening contest, Salem had similar issues as the Vulcans jumped out to an early lead. Potentially due to their busy week of playing 6 contests in 5 days, the Tigers again found themselves struggling to keep pace with the offensive output of the Vulcans. Accordingly, California (PA) would pull away and seal the deal on another tough loss for the Tigers. On a positive side of things, Tahnee Gerard led the way for the Tigers with 7 digs and 4 kills.
Despite the disappointing end to the week, the Salem Volleyball program has a chance to get back on track with their first true home contest of the season when the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats come to town on September 6th for a mid-week contest at 7 pm.
