SALEM, West Virginia - After leading off the season with 2 contests at The Bridge Sports Complex, it was finally time for Salem Volleyball to return to their true home of the T. Edwards Davis Gymnasium for a contest with the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats. The Tiger's played well, and put together some of their best sets of the year so far. Unfortunately, the improvements were not enough to overcome the Bobcats, and they fell 3-1.
In set 1, both teams traded blows early on as the game was very tightly contested. Salem rallied to just one point away from winning this set and taking control on the contest. However, a late rally from West Virginia Wesleyan would give them the first set. Set 2 would follow a similar trajectory, and the Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead.Â
In set 3, the Tigers put together their best individual set of the season, and controlled play the whole way. A late Bobcat rally threatened the Tiger lead, but Salem would hold on for a hard won 26-24 victory. Likely due to the hard won victory the set before, Salem struggled to maintain pace with the Bobcats in the final set. West Virginia Wesleyan would maintain their lead to a 3-1 victory.
Statistically, there were some great areas of improvement for the Tigers. For example, Makhia Hinton led the way with 13 kills, and Brianna Sotelo added an impressive 20 digs from her libero role.Â
Looking to make good on their recent improvements, the Tigers volleyball team will have a chance to enact some revenge for their previous loss to the Glenville State Pioneers when they head to Glenville on Thursday, September 8th for a 6 pm contest.
