Salem Has Tough Day on the Road at Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio - After making some big strides in the last few contests, the Salem Tigers volleyball program hit the road this week in search of that first win of the season up in northeast Ohio against the Ashland Eagles. Unfortunately, the Eagles had the Tigers number from the start, and Salem would fall 3-0.

One issue the Tigers have had this season is maintaining offensive pace with their opponents, and that same problem reared its ugly head yet again. In each of the three sets, the Eagles jumped out to early leads. The Tigers would storm back, but could never quite get over the hump to take control of the set. After the Tigers rallies, Ashland would push through and take each set in controlling fashion. Therefore, the Eagles cruised to the 3-0 win in the match.

However, there were some bright spots for the Tigers on the stats sheet. Makhia Hinton led the Tigers in both kills (7) and digs (5). Tahnee Gerard would also play well for Salem with 5 digs and 2 kills.

Even though today's contest did not go the Tigers way, Salem will be back in action again this week with the chance to get back on track as they are slated for a home contest against Bluefield State. That match is scheduled for Thursday, September 29th at 5 pm at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
