BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - As a soggy West Virginia late summer has continued to make the playing conditions at Catalano untenable, The Bridge Sports Complex played host to a second consecutive Salem men's soccer home game. The Tigers played host to USCAA foe Washington Adventist Shock, and earned their first victory of the fall campaign 4-0.Â
In the first half, both teams made use of the fast pace of play in the artificial turf to create scoring chances. However, excellent defensive play kept both teams at bay and maintained the 0-0 deadlock going into the halftime break.Â
In the second, the game opened up for the Tigers. For starters, they scored shortly after the half when a Shock foul brought Mauricio Aguilar Renovales to the penalty spot for Salem. He crushed a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal and brought the game to 1-0. Shortly thereafter, a Luka Majstorovic crossing pass found Aidan Mahoney for the second Salem goal. Not to be outdone by his teammate, Luka Majstorovic would add a breakaway goal of his own to bring it up to 3-0. The final goal was scored by Leonardo Davila to put the icing on the cake of a 4-0 dominant performance for Florin Marton's squad.Â
Statistically, the star performance was from Luka Majstorovic with a goal and an assist on 5 shots. In goal, Samuel Reyna-Farje pitched a shutout and logged three saves on the day.Â
The Salem men's soccer team will head up to Penn State-Brandywine for a weekend tournament on September 10th and September 11th. Their game times and opponents are still to be determined.
