BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - On a pristine late afternoon at The Bridge Sports Complex, the Salem women's soccer team played host to the Mountain Lions of Concord University. Salem put pressure on the Mountain Lions all day long, but fell by a score of 9-0.
For the first half of play, Salem settled into their usual plan of attack with a focus on keeping pressure on their opponents defensively, The offsides trap strategy proved effective for the Tigers, and they kept things close with Concord initially. However, Concord's offense proved that they were up to the task, and the Mountain Lions controlled the contest at 4-0 when the game went into the halftime intermission.
After the break, the Tigers had their work cut out for them as they tried to claw back into the game. They kept the pressure on, but the Mountain Lions simply outpaced Salem on their way on a 9-0 victory.Â
On the scorer's table, Salem did have some bright spots to the game despite the loss. Offensively, Salem got strong contributions from Marina Cher and Ana Luiza Ferrante. Sarah Cabrera had another busy day in goal with 19 saves.Â
As Salem looks to reset, the Tigers will be back in action this weekend as they are set to head down to Charleston to take on the Golden Eagles on October 15th at 8 PM.
