WHEELING, West Virginia - After playing in the far southern part of the state over the weekend, the Salem Tigers women's soccer program took the field on Wednesday afternoon up in the northern panhandle of the state. This time, the opponent was the Wheeling Cardinals, who the Tigers opened the season against at home back in September. Unfortunately, the Cardinals were still triumphant in the rematch. This time, the score was 11-0 in favor of Wheeling.
For the first half, the story of the match was Alexis Kilgroe, who moved out of her usual forward field position and into the net to fill in as goalkeeper on the day. However, the Wheeling offensive attack was too much for the Tigers as they went into the break trailing 6-0.
For the second half, it was more of the same for Salem with Wheeling controlling the pace of play from the opening whistle. Salem tried to get some offensive chances going through the play of Julia Munoz-Delgado and Marina Cher, but to no avail. The Cardinals were able to cruise to the 11-0 victory.
While today's result did not end the way the Salem faithful would have hoped, they will continue their stretch of road contests this weekend when they head up to Maryland to take on the Frostburg State Bobcats on October 21st at 7 PM.
