Rough Afternoon for the Tigers Against Alderson Broaddus

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - With a pair of wins on Monday, the Salem softball team had another home contest on the docket against local rival Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday afternoon. While they had some extra energy from their Monday wins, Salem came up short in both contests to the Battlers. Both contests played out as follows:

Alderson Broaddus 7, Salem 4

In Game 1, Salem had their backs against the wall early on when the Battlers jumped out to a 4-0 after 2 innings. However, the Tigers fought back with the subsequent innings. It started in the 2nd with RBI singles from Sierra Chapa and Kaydee Anderson to make it 4-2. Salem knotted the game up in the 6th. Jazmyn Moetului doubled and brought in Sierra Chapa. Ricki Garay then brought in Moetului with a single shortly thereafter to make it 4-4. Salem kept the game even with a strong defensive effort in the 7th inning, and we had extracurricular softball in Bridgeport. Unfortunately, Alderson Broaddus added 3 runs in the 8th, and Salem fell in a dramatic 7-4 game in the first contest of the day. In the pitcher's circle, a combined effort from starter Meesha Arroyo and Andrea Gallegos yielded 4 strikeouts for Salem.

Alderson Broaddus 11, Salem 1

For Game 2, the Tigers kept it close in the first inning by adding a run off a sacrifice fly from Ricki Garay after Alderson Broaddus added 2 in the top of the first. Unfortunately, that would be where the offensive output for the Tigers dried up. The Battlers jumped out to an early lead, and ran away with a 11-1 win in 5 innings.

While the rough outing for the Tigers was less than ideal, Salem will be able to get back on track with another set of home contests on the docket this weekend. They are set to play host to the Big Blue of Bluefield State for a 2 PM contest on Saturday, April 15th.
