Salem Blanks Bluefield State with Dominant Performance

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After dropping the final game against Bluefield State on the road earlier this season, the Tigers were looking for some revenge when they played host to the Big Blue. They did just that as they notched back to back shutout wins back on the turf at the Bridge Sports Complex. Both contests played out as follows:

Salem 8, Bluefield State 0

The Tigers got off to a great start with a RBI single from Ricki Garay to bring in Kaydee Anderson in the first inning. Salem struck again in the second inning with a 2 RBI triple from Meladie LaRance that brought it up to 3-0. Anderson added the 4th run of the game shortly thereafter when her groundout allowed Sierra Chapa to score. In the 4th, Salem built on their lead with another big inning. Sierra Chapa started it off with an RBI single, and then another Anderson sacrifice play allowed Chapa to make it home. Jazmyn Moetului then added the play of the game when she crushed the ball to deep right field, and made it all the way around for an inside the park home run. The final run of the game was scored in that same 4th inning when Meesha Arroyo grounded out to bring in Ricki Garay. With the 8 run threshold broken, the game concluded in the 5th inning. On the pitcher's circle, Salem got a great performance from Meesha Arroyo, who allowed just 3 hits, and struck out 2 on her way to the complete game shutout win.

Salem 7, Bluefield State 0

For Game 2 at The Bridge, Salem uncorked another strong offensive performance. In the first, the Tigers led off by adding a run on when Mackensize Ringer with hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Meesha Arroyo then added an RBI single, and the Tigers added another when Syriah Trujillo reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Ricki Garay to make it home. Salem added one last run in the first on a perfectly executed double steal play that allowed Ringer to make it home. With control of the game at 4-0, the Tigers would further add to that lead in the 6th. The 6th inning started off with back to back RBI singles from Jazmyn Moetului and Ricki Garay. Then, Moetului would add the final run of the game when she crossed home plate on a Big Blue wild pitch. Salem rode a shutout performance from Andreas Gallegos in the circle, who logged 2 strikeouts and allowed just 3 hits in another complete game win for the Tigers.

With two dominant wins under their belt, Salem will be looking for more when they have another rematch on the docket this week. They are set to match up with West Virginia Wesleyan for the second time this season on Tuesday, April 18th at 4 PM in Buckhannon.
