Tigers Sweep at Virginia State University

PETERSBURG, Pennsylvania - On Friday last week the tigers traveled to Petersburg, PA to match up against the Virginia State University Trojans. This was supposed to be a 3-game weekend, however, their Saturday game was cut short due to some unfortunate weather. Instead, the teams fought in a double-header stating at noon on Sunday. The tigers put up a winning performance in both games taking the first one 8-4 and the second 8-6.

In game one of the day the trojans put 2 runs on the board in the first inning, Salem responded to this later in the 4th inning where Nathan Kukn hit a double giving him 2 RBI's as he brought home Kaiden Zacharias and Brett Ehr. Then in the 5th inning another run was scored from a sacrificed bunt by Luis Angarita which brought home Aaron Forbes. In the 7th inning an error was made by the trojans 1st baseman allowing Tyler Shinn to reach 1st and Jacob Barcikows to score. In the 9th inning Angarita hit a double that brought in Jose Lojo and Kevin Thompson hit the single to bring Angarita to home. The tigers finished the first game 8-4 and went straight into game two of the afternoon.
The tigers opened up the first round of scoring for game two of the day. The first two runs were scored by Jacob Hurley and Aaron Forbes thanks to a double hit by Luis Angarita. Another two runs were scored when Nathan Kuhn singled through the right-side letting Angarita and Jose Lojo score. In the 4th inning Kaiden Zacharias and Tyler Shinn each had RBI single hits that brought home Kuhn and Zacharias himself. The last two runs of the game were scored thanks to a single hit by Hurley that brought in Kuhn and Zacharias.

This was a great day of baseball for the Salem tigers and Virginia State will be back to challenge Salem again on home turf on the 29th of April. Before then however, the tigers will match up against California University of Pennsylvania on the 25th and Glenville State College on the 26th.
