Salem Battles to Another Split with Kentucky State

FRANKFORT, Kentucky - In their lone event this week, the Salem softball team launched the return trip down to Kentucky State on Tuesday afternoon. Salem split with the Thorobreds at home earlier in the season, and they would do the same down in Frankfort this time around. Salem won Game 1, but fell in a tight Game 2. Both contests plated out as follows:

Salem 5, Kentucky State 3

For the first contest of the day. Salem led off the contest by scoring on a Jazmyn Moetului groundout that brought in Sierra Chapa in the first inning. The Thorobreds added three of their own on the other side of the 1st, but the Tigers battled back in the 2nd. They made it 3-2 with a Meladie LaRance single that brought in Mackenzie Ringer. Then, Salem knotted up the game at 3-3 in the third off of a Meesha Arroyo sacrifice bunt that brought in Moetului. A Kentucky State error allowed the Tigers to add another run in the 4th, and LaRance added the final touches with a sacrifice fly in the 7th to bring in Arroyo. Salem secured the 5-3 win with pitcher Andrea Gallegos striking out 5 in the complete game win from the circle.

Kentucky State 2, Salem 1

On the flip side of the twinbill, Salem had a tight ball game on their hands. After Kentucky State took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Tigers knotted it up again in the third off of a Ringer groundout that allowed Kaydee Anderson to score from third. Unfortunately, that would be the lone Salem run, and the Thorobreds would add a single run in the final inning to win 2-1. On the pitcher's circle, Meesha Arroyo pitched well despite the loss as she struck out 9 Kentucky State batters.

After they return home from Kentucky, Salem will wrap up their regular season on May 1st when they are headed up to North Canton, Ohio to take on the Walsh Cavaliers for a 2 PM doubleheader.
