BOWIE, Maryland - After coming up just short in two contests earlier this week, the Salem softball team took another road trip to take on the Bulldogs of Bowie State in Bowie, Maryland. While the Tigers made a few positive strides in the two scheduled contests, they feel in both contests. Each matchup played out as follows:
Bowie State 8, Salem 4
For the first contest of the day, Salem had their work cut out for them early on when the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings. The Tigers battled back in the 5th. Jazmyn Moetului led off the rally with a RBI single to bring in Victoria Castro. The rally then continued with a single from the bat of Ricki Garay that brought in 2 more runs for the Tigers. The Bulldogs were able to stop the bleeding however and grew their lead to 8-3 in the 6th inning. Salem had their last chance for a comeback in the 7th, and they were able to muster a small rally. Syriah Trujillo knocked in an RBI single that brought in Sierra Chapa, but the Tigers were not able to build on that momentum. Therefore, Salem fell in Game 1 by a score of 8-4. In the pitcher's circle, Meesha Arroyo and Andrea Gallegos combined for a total of 7 strikeouts in the game.
Bowie State 10, Salem 2
For Game 2 in Bowie, Salem got the ball rolling with a run in the very first inning when the Bulldogs walked Meladie LaRance with the bases loaded to bring in Sierra Chapa from third. However, the Bulldogs took control of the game right back in 1st and 2nd innings. The Tigers built another rally in the third inning with a Syriah Trujillo single that brought in Ricki Garay. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs kicked their offense into high gear in the remaining innings, and Salem fell again by a score of 10-2.
While today's contests did not fall the Salem way, they will be able to make some adjustments to get back on track in their next two contests at home. They are set to rematch with the Shock of Washington Adventst at home in Bridgeport on Monday, April 10th at Noon.
