Salem Defeats Florida National to Advance in USCAA Tourney

DUBOIS, Pennsylvania - After extinguishing Penn State-Mont Alto yesterday, Salem earned themselves a matchup with the #1 overall seed in the USCAA Small College World Series, namely the Conquistadors of Florida National University. Salem unleashed a dominant offensive performance, and cruised to a 10-1 win. The contest played out as follows:

Florida National led off with a run in the first. However, that would be all the offensive the Tigers allowed them to muster on the day. Salem responded in the 3rd when Sierra Chapa knotted the game up at 1-1 by scoring on a wild pitch. That run sparked a Tiger rally that included a RBI single from Ricki Garay, a RBI double from Meesha Arroyo, and another RBI single; this time from the bat of Sierra Chapa. In the fourth, Jazmyn Moetului added to the Salem lead with a RBI triple, and she would then score on the next play which was a Ricki Garay groundout.Syriah Trujillo would cap off the 4th inning run with a RBI single of her own. The capstone 10th run of the contest was scored in the 5th, when Mackenzie Ringer knocked in a single to bring in Meladie LaRance. That capped off a dominant performance for the Tigers, and advanced them to the third round of the USCAA Small College World Series. In the circle for the Tigers, Andrea Gallegos got her 8th win of the season from 5 strong innings of work and 2 strikeouts.

Much like yesterday, the Tigers know they have advanced in the tournament, but they are still not sure who they will play. They will take on the winner of Penn State-Brandywine and Penn State-New Kensington on Wednesday, May 17th at 2 PM in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
