Tigers Nab First Win of Season

PIKEVILLE, KY- The Salem Tigers traveled to the University of Pikeville for a tournament this weekend hosted by the Lady Bears. Playing three games on Saturday the Tigers went 2-1 grabbing wins against Virginia University of Lynchburg and Warren Wilson. The Tigers only loss came against Pikeville in their first match of the day.

The first match of the day came early with a 9:00 am start time. The Tigers dropped the first set to the Lady Bears before winning set number two to tie the match. It was all Pikeville in set three which they won 25-14. The Tigers were back against the wall and fought to the very end, going back and forth with Pikeville for the entire fourth set. Unfortunately, the home team ended up being too much in the end as the Lady Bears won the fourth set 27-29 to secure the match win (3-1).

Match number two followed shortly after where the Tigers took on the Dragons. This match was all Tigers as they coasted to a match win (3-0) sweeping the Dragons and giving the tigers their first win of the season.

Following the second match the Tigers looked to start a win streak by taking on Warren Wilson. The Tigers stayed hot and continued their sweeping ways by taking down the Owls in three sets to finish the tournament 2-1 and gain some much needed momentum before traveling to Pittsburgh where they will face off against Carlow University on Wednesday, September 20th.
