WEST LIBERTY, West Virginia - As the Salem women's soccer team opened up the year with back to back home games, the Tigers hit the road this afternoon for the first away contest of the season against the West Liberty Hilltoppers. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Hilltoppers controlled the match from start to finish and pulled away with a 13-0 win.
Salem found themselves in trouble early as West Liberty used the home field advantage to full effect to quickly take a 4-0 lead. That scoreline held into the intermission, as the Tigers looked to regroup.
After the half though, it was only going to get worse for Salem as the Hilltoppers offense simply could not be stopped. The final scoreline would read West Liberty 13, Salem 0.
On the score sheet, Ana Luiza Ferrante led the Tigers in shots, and goalkeeper Sarah Cabrera logged 17 saves in the afternoon.
While today's scoreline was certainly not ideal, the Tigers will have a chance to reset ahead of their next contest, which is another road bout with local rival Fairmont State on Wednesday, September 20th at 7 PM at Duvall-Rosier Field in Fairmont, West Virginia.
