FAIRMONT, West Virginia - After a few difficult days in their more recent contests, the Tigers were looking for a reset as they headed just up the road to take on the Falcons of Fairmont State. Salem found themselves in a high pressure defensive battle that ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw. The contest played out as follows:
In the first half, Salem found themselves in a tough spot early as the Falcons offensive attack created scoring chances regularly throughout the game. However, Salem's defense stood tall and battled back every Falcon advance. While Salem could not find much offensive firepower of their own, they stifled Fairmont State all evening defensively. The star of the match was clearly goalkeeper Sarah Cabrera, who battled through the bevy of Falcon shots to log 15 saves and her first clean sheet on the season.
While not an outright win, the strong defensive play tonight should energize the Tigers as they head into their next match. Salem will be taking on Notre Dame College back at home at The Bridge Sports Complex on Sunday, September 24th at 7 PM.
