BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - Fresh off their first win and draw of the season over the weekend, the Salem men's soccer team got to return to the comfort of their home field at The Bridge Sports Complex for a mid-week contest with local rival West Virginia Welseyan. The Tigers played the Bobcats tough, but fell by a score of 3-0.
In the first half, Salem got off to a great start against the Bobcats as both teams traded runs early. However, it would be West Virginia Wesleyan who found the back of the net first off of a deflected shot that got past Samuel Reyna-Farje on the rebound. The Bobcats took another goal just before the half, and the 2-0 scoreline held into the intermission.
After the break, Salem desperately tried to claw back into the game, but the Bobcats defense made scoring chances very difficult to come by. The Bobcats added one more in the second half, and carried the 3-0 scoreline the rest of the way on their way to a victory.
While the result did not end in Salem's favor, the Tigers did have some areas of improvement to carry into their next contest. For example, Andrea Fincato and Ricardo Gallego Curto each added 2 of Salem's 5 shots on goal. On the defensive side, keeper Samuel Reyna-Farje was able to record 9 saves despite the loss.
Salem will be looking to bounce back in their next contest. They are set to take on Notre Dame College at home at The Bridge Sports Complex at 4 PM on Sunday, September 24th in Bridgeport.
