BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After a couple defensive road contests to open up the season, Salem men's soccer finally got a chance to play on the home field of The Bridge Sports Complex. In a high paced game at The Bridge, the offensive fireworks came alive, unfortunately for the Tigers, it was the Charleston offensive firepower that was on display. 

The Tigers kept it close initially, but fell behind off a free kick that was partially blocked by goalkeeper Samuel Reyna-Farje, yet trickled into the back of the net anyway. The Golden Eagles added another just before the half, and Salem went into the much needed break from the central West Virginia heat with a score of 2-0. 

However, that would be where things got tougher for Salem. The Charleston offensive attack showed why they were ranked at #2 nationally coming into today's game, and put in 4 goals in the second half to run away from the Tigers towards a 6-0 win. 

On the stats sheet, Salem did compete with the Golden Eagles defensively, as keepers Samuel Reyna-Farje and Ryan Schneider faced a difficult 18 shots to earn 3 saves on the day. Offensively, Salem found the offensive opportunities few and far between and could only muster a handful of shots on the day. 

While today did not go the Tigers way, Salem will be able to get back on track early next week as The Bridge Sports Complex will play host to a men's and women's soccer doubleheader on Sunday, September 10th when the men's soccer team plays Frostburg State at 3:30 PM and the women's squad will make their season debut against Wheeling at 1 PM.
