Tigers Overwhelmed at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, West Virginia - With the fall colors almost in full swing here in West Virginia, the Salem women's soccer team headed up to the mountains this afternoon to take on the Davis & Elkins Senators. The second leg of the soccer doubleheader saw the Tigers struggle to get things going offensively, and therefore falling to the Senators 6-0.

For the first half, the game opened up well for the Tigers with neither team truly controlling the ball. The offensive chances for the Senators were few initially thanks to some strong work from the Tigers backline. However, the Senators would eventually break the deadlock, and then add a goal late in the period. The 2-0 scoreline held through the halftime break.

After the intermission, things got tougher for the Tigers. The Senators found 4 more goals throughout the second half, and Salem could not muster enough offensive punch to work themselves back into the game. With the full 90 minutes off the clock, the final score would read Senators 6, Tigers 0.

Despite the loss, Salem did get some strong individual performances. First, Vanessa Allen added the only shots on goal for the Tigers. Defensively, goalkeeper Sarah Cabrera added 14 saves in the loss.

The Tigers have a few days to regroup ahead of their next contest. In that contest, Salem heads over to Gilmer County of take on the Glenville State Pioneers on October 16th at 7 PM.
