GLENVILLE, West Virginia – The Salem Tigers women's soccer team headed south on a rainy Wednesday evening for a match up with the Glenville State Pioneers. The Tigers were looking to get a big road win but were unsuccessful in getting the offense going. The Pioneers were able to take control of the game and secure a 6-0 victory.
In the first half, both teams started out slow on the offensive end with no goals being scored in the first 10 minutes of play. However, the Pioneers were able to strike first at the 14-minute mark to take the 1-0 lead. The pioneers would go on an impressive run midway through the first half scoring 3 goals in less than 3 minutes. With that impressive run, the Pioneers were able to take a commanding 4-0 lead headed into the half.
For the second half, the Pioneers struck quick and scored a goal at the 50-minute mark extending their lead to 5-0. At this point, the Tigers desperately needed to get on the board. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so, and the Pioneers were able to score the final goal of the game at the 77-minute mark. The Glenville State Pioneers were able to control the game and grab the 6-0 win.
Despite the loss, the Tigers will have a chance to bounce back as they return home for a Sunday evening game against West Virginia State University at The Bridge Sports Complex at 6 PM.
